Bose is recalling bass modules manufactured before April 1, 2006 that were sold with select Acoustimass, Lifestyle, and Companion home theater systems.
About 884,000 in U.S.; about 98,000 in Canada; about 18,300 in Mexico.
Under certain conditions, electrical components within the bass module can fail, posing a fire hazard. There are 21 reports worldwide of the bass modules igniting or melting, including three incidents of fires resulting in property damage to carpeting, an entertainment cabinet and to materials surrounding the bass box. No injuries have been reported.
Sold at: Bose stores, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sam’s Club, Sears and other electronics stores nationwide, and online at Bose.com from January 1994 through April 2007 for between $220 and $2,200.

Acoustimass 15 II Home Entertainment System Between 2090 and 6091
To determine if your bass module is impacted, follow the steps below. If your bass module is included in the recall, please stop using it and unplug it from the electrical outlet immediately.
STEP 1
Locate your bass module. Below are two images of the bass modules included in this recall. The color of your bass module may be either black or white.

STEP 2
Unplug your bass module from the electrical outlet. Turn your bass module so you can view the label. Find your product name and serial number on the label. The product name is located at the top of the label next to the Bose logo. The serial number is described as “SER. NO.” or “SERIAL NUMBER”. See examples below. Your label may look slightly different than these images.

The label is located on the bottom of your bass module. Make sure to take a picture or write down your product name and serial number for easy access when needed.

The label is located on the back of your bass module. Make sure to take a picture or write down your product name and serial number for easy access when needed.
STEP 3
If your product name is “ACOUSTIMASS 6 III HOME ENT. SYSTEM” or “ACOUSTIMASS 15 II HOME ENT. SYSTEM”, go to Step 4 below to determine if your bass module is included in the recall. If your product name is something different, go back up to the product list above and match the product name from your label to the product list.
If the product list indicates that your bass module is included in the recall, please go to Step 5 below for instructions on how to return it
STEP 4
If your product name is “ACOUSTIMASS 6 III HOME ENT. SYSTEM” or “ACOUSTIMASS 15 II HOME ENT. SYSTEM”, look at the serial number on your bass module (you can find your serial number as shown above in “Step 2”).
Find digits 8 through 11 of the serial number (circled in the image below).
If digits 8 through 11 are between 2090 and 6091, your product is included in this recall. Please go to Step 5 below for instructions on how to return it.
If digits 8 through 11 are not between 2090 and 6091, your product is not included in this recall.
STEP 5
If you have determined that your bass module is included in the recall by following the steps above, stop using it immediately and do not plug it in or reconnect it to electrical power. Return your bass module and we’ll repair it free of charge. Alternatively, given the age of your product, you may elect to return your bass module in exchange for a 40% discount on a new Bose Soundbar, which is our newer all-in-one music and home theater sound solution.

1. Is your serial number 17-digits? You may use the self-service option below by entering your serial number from the Bass Module label.

2. Is your serial number less than 17-digits? Please contact Bose directly using the contact information at the bottom of the page. A Bose customer service agent will assist you.
